Enroll instantly, study at your own pace from any device, and complete all modules in under an hour.

  2. Pass the final assessment with 80% or higher

Once you pass, your ELDT completion is confirmed and queued for submission to the FMCSA TPR.

  3. Your results are submitted to the FMCSA Training Provider Registry

Standard submissions are processed within 24–48 hours. Same-day submissions are processed the day you complete the course.

  4. Complete the TSA background check & fingerprinting

In addition to ELDT, the Hazmat endorsement requires a TSA security threat assessment. Contact your state DMV for details on scheduling your background check and fingerprinting appointment.

Frequently asked questions

Is Hazmat ELDT required to get my CDL Hazmat endorsement?

Yes. The FMCSA requires all CDL drivers adding a Hazmat (H) endorsement for the first time to complete Hazmat ELDT theory training with an approved provider listed on the Training Provider Registry before taking the state knowledge test.

How long does this Hazmat ELDT course take?

Most drivers complete the course in under one hour. It is fully self-paced — you can log in and out as needed and resume from any device. There is no time limit to complete the course.

What is the difference between the $20 and $35 options?

Both options include the same FMCSA-approved Hazmat ELDT course and free test prep. The $20 standard option submits your results to the FMCSA Training Provider Registry within 24–48 hours of completion. The $35 same-day option submits your results the same day you complete the course — ideal if you need to schedule your DMV test as quickly as possible.

Do I need anything else besides this course to get my Hazmat endorsement?

Yes. In addition to completing Hazmat ELDT theory, you must also complete a TSA security threat assessment — which includes a background check and fingerprinting — and pass your state DMV Hazmat knowledge test. This course fulfills the federal ELDT theory requirement. Contact your state DMV for details on the TSA background check process.

Is DLA Academy FMCSA approved?

Yes. DLA Academy is an FMCSA-approved ELDT provider listed on the Training Provider Registry. When you complete this course, your results are submitted directly to the TPR — no extra steps required on your end.

What score do I need to pass?

You need a minimum score of 80% on the final assessment to complete your ELDT requirement and have your results submitted to the FMCSA TPR.

How does DLA Academy compare to other Hazmat ELDT providers?

DLA Academy offers the same FMCSA-approved, TPR-listed Hazmat ELDT training as providers charging $50, $99, or more — at just $20. The curriculum is federally mandated, meaning every approved provider teaches the same core material. The difference is simply price, platform, and support. We also include free test prep that other providers charge extra for.

Do I need this course if I already have a Hazmat endorsement?

No. The FMCSA ELDT requirements are not retroactive. If you held a valid Hazmat endorsement before February 7, 2022, you are exempt. This course is only required for drivers adding the Hazmat endorsement for the first time on or after that date.

Can trucking companies enroll multiple drivers?

Yes. If you are a trucking company, fleet manager, or staffing agency needing to enroll multiple drivers in Hazmat ELDT, contact us directly at the email below and we can discuss bulk enrollment options.
