The single most-missed item on the hazmat test: the placarding threshold. Table 1 materials require placards at any quantity. Table 2 materials require placards only at 1,001 pounds or more gross weight. Drivers mix these up constantly, and this course drills it across multiple sections until it sticks.

Right or wrong, you find out why immediately. Wrong answers are built from the mistakes drivers actually make, so a miss teaches you something instead of just costing a point.

After each test you see your score broken down by topic, and you can retake just the questions you missed. Unlimited attempts on any device.
This is practice — not ELDT. This course helps you pass the DMV knowledge test. It does not fulfill the federal ELDT requirement and is not submitted to the FMCSA Training Provider Registry. You must complete Hazmat ELDT separately before your state will let you take the knowledge test. Need it?

Adding Tanker Too?
If you haul fuel or chemicals you need both hazmat and tanker — together they show as the X endorsement. They work very differently:
Tanker requires no ELDT and no background check. The federal ELDT rule covers Class A, Class B, the B-to-A upgrade, and the Hazmat, Passenger and School Bus endorsements only. Tanker is a 20-question knowledge test and nothing more — you can book it as soon as you're ready, while your hazmat TSA check runs in the background.
The other half of the X endorsement
Tanker Practice Test — 42 Questions — $15
Liquid surge, baffled and smooth-bore tanks, outage, and the rollover risk that makes tank work dangerous. More than twice the length of the real 20-question test.

Everything for the X endorsement
Hazmat & Tanker Complete — $45

Frequently Asked Questions
How many questions are on the hazmat test?+
Most states use a 30-question hazmat endorsement knowledge test and require 80% to pass — that is 24 of 30 correct. Our main practice section matches that length and standard exactly, so your practice score tells you something real. Confirm the format with your state licensing agency.
What's on the hazmat test?+
Hazardous materials regulations, the Hazardous Materials Table, shipping papers, marking and labeling, placarding rules and thresholds, loading and segregation, parking and attendance, driving and route restrictions, and emergency response including the Emergency Response Guidebook. All of it is covered in this practice course.
Full breakdown →
Does this practice test replace Hazmat ELDT?+
No. Hazmat ELDT is a separate federal requirement that must be completed before your state will let you take the knowledge test, and it is reported to the FMCSA registry. This practice test helps you pass that knowledge test but is not reported. If you need both, the
Hazmat ELDT + Test Prep bundle is $30, saving $5.
How many practice questions are included?+
100 questions across four sections: a full 30-question hazmat endorsement exam simulation, 25 questions on placards and shipping papers, 25 on loading, segregation and parking, and 20 on emergencies and the Emergency Response Guidebook. Every question includes an explanation of the correct answer.
What is the placarding threshold?+
Table 1 materials require placards at any quantity. Table 2 materials require placards when the total gross weight of all hazardous materials on the vehicle reaches 1,001 pounds or more. This is one of the most commonly missed items on the test, and it is drilled throughout this course.
Can I retake the practice tests?+
Yes, as many times as you like. After each test you see how you scored by topic so you know what to review, and you can retake just the questions you missed rather than starting over. Access does not expire.
Is this submitted to the FMCSA TPR?+
No. This is a practice and preparation course — it is not submitted to the FMCSA Training Provider Registry. Only your
Hazmat ELDT completion is submitted.
Do I need this if I'm also getting my tanker endorsement?+
Tanker is a separate 20-question knowledge test and requires no ELDT at all. Holding both hazmat and tanker gives you the X endorsement. Our
Hazmat & Tanker Complete bundle covers ELDT plus practice questions for both tests for $45.
How long does it take?+
It is self-paced with no time limit. Most drivers work through a section at a time and revisit their weak topics before test day. It works on your phone, so you can practice on a break or in a waiting room.
