Hazmat ELDT Requirements (Federal)

Under federal law, CDL drivers must complete Hazmat ELDT before taking the HazMat knowledge test.

In most states, the process looks like this:

  2. Take the HazMat knowledge test at your state licensing agency

  3. Complete TSA fingerprinting and background check

  4. Receive your HazMat endorsement once approved

Without ELDT completion uploaded to the FMCSA Training Provider Registry, state agencies cannot administer the HazMat test.
